No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A 23-year-old man died after allegedly jumping from the fifth floor of a residential building in Indore’s Chandan Nagar area late at night, triggering questions over the events leading to the tragedy. The deceased, identified as Raj Makwana, reportedly panicked after being stopped and allegedly slapped by a police officer while he was walking outside his home.
The incident occurred between 2 am and 3 am at the Tapti residential complex. According to family members, Raj had stepped out of the house because he was feeling uncomfortable due to heat and breathing problems. They said he often went outside briefly at night to get fresh air when he felt uneasy.
According to the family, a security guard noticed Raj walking outside and questioned him about why he was out so late, leading to a brief argument. During this time, a police vehicle arrived at the spot. The family alleges that while questioning him, a police officer slapped Raj, after which he became frightened and ran towards the building.
Relatives claim that Raj later went up to the fifth floor of the residential complex and jumped down. He suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. His mother, Rekha Makwana, said she had asked him twice to come back inside the house that night and witnessed him jumping when she came downstairs to look for him.
Police reached the scene after receiving information and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Officials said a case has been registered and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the incident.
